Criminal law focuses on behaviors that are sanctioned under criminal code and defined as illegal. The Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, M.G.L. Chapter 93A, protects people from unfair and deceptive acts or omissions of a business. While individual consumers may state a claim under this Act, the law also allows businesses to sue other businesses if a business was dishonest or unfair to another. Corso Law, LLC can advise you as to your rights and drafting a demand letter, informing and interfacing with the Attorney General office or other governmental or licensing agencies, litigation, and seeking potential triple damages and attorneys’ fees for the business’ dishonest acts.

The areas of civil rights and whistleblower law aims to balance competing interests between institutions of government on the one hand, and individuals or groups of individuals on the other. A whistleblower is one who reports or exposes information or activity that is deemed illegal, unethical, or not correct within either a public or private organization. An "equitable claim" is a non-monetary request that a court to order a party to take some affirmative action or cease an act, where compensatory legal remedies are insufficient. Such a request may or may not be joined with a claim for money damages. Equitable claims include parties seeking a temporary restraining order or injunction, whether it be to prevent the destruction of property, the improper transfer of land, the solicitation of a business' customers or employees, or similar action, or a party who seeks the specific performance of a promise.
